The Pentair Clean & Clear® 100 Sq. Ft. Cartridge Filter (EC-160316) delivers dependable residential pool filtration with simple maintenance and no backwashing required. Its single-cartridge design provides 100 square feet of effective filtration area and supports flow rates up to 100 GPM.
The Clean & Clear filter uses a durable, fiberglass-reinforced polypropylene tank designed to resist pool chemicals, corrosion and outdoor conditions. The removable cartridge captures debris and fine particles as small as approximately 20 microns and can be cleaned with a standard garden hose.
This filter includes the internal 100 sq. ft. cartridge element, making it ready for installation once the required plumbing connections are completed.

Pentair’s locking ring requires only approximately one-half revolution to secure the filter tank and provides convenient access to the cartridge and internal components.

Cartridge Maintenance
The cartridge should be cleaned when the filter pressure rises approximately 10 PSI above the recorded clean-starting pressure or when pool circulation noticeably decreases.
To clean the element:
- Shut off the circulation pump.
- Prevent the pump from restarting automatically.
- Open the manual air-relief valve.
- Confirm the pressure gauge reads zero.
- Remove the locking ring and filter lid.
- Remove the cartridge.
- Rinse between the pleats with a garden hose.
- Inspect the element for tears, collapsed pleats or damaged end caps.
- Reassemble the filter and follow the proper startup procedure.
Never loosen or remove the locking ring while the system is pressurized.
Installation Requirements
Install the filter on a stable, level equipment pad with sufficient space for plumbing and future servicing. Approximately 61 inches of total vertical clearance is required to remove the cartridge element.
The pump and plumbing system must be sized so that water flow does not exceed 100 GPM or the rating of the lowest-rated system component.
The filter must not operate above 50 PSI or with internal water temperatures exceeding 104°F.
