Compatibility
The B985 is intended for compatible pumps requiring a two-speed, 230V, Y56Y square-flange motor with approximately 2.2 total horsepower.
Horsepower alone does not confirm compatibility. Compare the existing motor’s voltage, speed, frame, flange, service factor, total horsepower, shaft, amperage, and rotation. The pump impeller and diffuser must also be matched to the motor’s total output.
Replacing a single-speed motor with the B985 requires compatible two-speed controls. A standard single-pole timer or switch will not provide independent high- and low-speed selection.
Installation Information
Installation should be completed by a qualified pool technician or electrician. Disconnect and lock out power before servicing the pump.
Wire the motor according to its nameplate diagram using controls rated for two-speed 230V operation. Replace the mechanical shaft seal whenever the motor is separated from the pump wet end. Inspect the impeller, diffuser, seal plate, O-rings, and housing before reassembly.
Prime the pump completely before startup. Never operate the pump dry.
