Pool Volume Calculator

How many gallons are in your pool? Start with its shape, water dimensions and average depth. This pool volume calculator estimates US gallons and liters for rectangular, round, oval and freeform pools, giving you a starting point for water treatment, heating and circulation planning.

Estimate gallons for rectangular, round, oval and kidney-shaped pools. Save your result to use throughout our calculator collection.

How to use this calculator

A reliable gallon estimate helps you compare equipment and scale product directions. Save the result in your browser, then use it in the other Pool Supply Depot calculators without repeatedly measuring your pool.

  1. Choose the shape and enter dimensions in feet or meters.
  2. Measure shallow and deep water depth; use equal values for a flat floor.
  3. Review the estimate and save your volume for the other calculators.

Worked example

A rectangular pool measuring 32 feet by 16 feet, with water depths of 3 and 7 feet, has an assumed average depth of 5 feet. Its estimated volume is about 19,150 US gallons, or 72,491 liters. This assumes a uniformly sloping floor and does not subtract benches or ledges.

Example inputs illustrate the calculation. Enter your own measurements, product directions and rates to plan your pool.

Turn your result into a plan

Use the calculated gallons to explore heating time, turnover and salt addition. Equipment selection still needs flow, site conditions and manufacturer requirements; gallons alone do not identify the correct pump or heater.

Frequently asked questions

How do I measure average pool depth?

For a uniformly sloping floor, average the shallow and deep water depths. If the pool has a large flat shallow area, steep hopper, benches or a tanning ledge, estimate each section separately for a closer result.

Can I calculate a kidney-shaped pool?

Yes. The freeform option uses an adjustable area factor applied to length and width. It is an approximation; irregular outlines need measured surface area or a section-by-section calculation.

Are these US or Imperial gallons?

The output uses US gallons. Liters are also shown, and the dimension inputs accept feet or meters. Do not enter an Imperial-gallon figure into the other calculators as though it were US gallons.

Will the saved volume follow me to another device?

The saved value stays in the browser used to save it. A different device, browser or cleared browser storage may require you to enter and save the volume again.
