Pool Water Filling Cost Calculator
Estimate the water charge and time needed to fill or partially refill your pool. Enter pool gallons, the percentage being filled, your utility’s billing units and rates, and a measured fill-flow rate. The result separates water, sewer and any additional charge you enter.
Estimate fill or refill cost from your utility’s rate units, optional sewer charge and measured hose flow.
How to use this calculator
Utilities can bill water in different units. This calculator supports 1,000 US gallons, CCF and cubic meters, helping you use the units printed on your bill rather than treating every rate as a price per gallon.
- Enter pool gallons and the percentage you plan to fill or replace.
- Select the billing unit and enter applicable water and sewer rates.
- Add any extra fill charge and measured hose GPM to estimate cost and time.
Worked example
Replacing 50% of a 20,000-gallon pool requires 10,000 gallons. At $3 per 1,000 gallons for water, $2 for sewer and a $10 added charge, the estimate is $60. At a constant 10 GPM, adding that volume takes about 16.67 hours, before interruptions or flow changes.
Example inputs illustrate the calculation. Enter your own measurements, product directions and rates to plan your pool.
Turn your result into a plan
For a planned dilution, start with the Water Replacement calculator and bring its gallon estimate here. Ask the utility about the rate tier and any pool-fill sewer adjustment that actually applies; the calculator does not automatically apply exemptions or local tariffs.
Frequently asked questions
What is a CCF on my water bill?
CCF means 100 cubic feet. This calculator uses approximately 748.052 US gallons per CCF. Select that unit only if it matches the rate printed on your bill.
Does the tool calculate tiered water pricing?
No. Enter the applicable marginal rate or an appropriate blended rate for the fill. If usage spans several tiers, calculate each portion using its rate and combine the amounts.
Should I include a sewer charge?
Include it only if your utility bills sewer for the fill. Some utilities have adjustment policies, but you need to confirm your own account’s rules before excluding a charge.
How can I improve the fill-time estimate?
Measure actual hose or fill-line flow rather than assuming a standard rate. The estimate assumes constant GPM, so interruptions, pressure changes or multiple hoses can change the actual time.
