How to use this calculator
The target remains editable because different chlorinators have different requirements. The salt purity and bag-weight inputs help you turn a water-test result into a practical purchase estimate without assuming every bag has the same size.

Worked example
For 10,000 US gallons, raising salinity from 3,000 to 4,000 ppm requires about 83.45 pounds of 100% pure salt. Three 40-pound bags cover that purchase, but the calculated addition is 83.45 pounds, not all 120 pounds. This target illustrates the math; use your own system’s specified range.

What salt target should I use?
Use the installation or operating manual for your exact chlorinator. The tool’s example target is not a universal pool recommendation. Verify the reading with an appropriate test before making a large addition.
Why does the bag count round up?
The number estimates whole bags to buy. Dose the calculated weight and retain the remainder; adding every purchased bag may overshoot the target.
Can this calculator lower a high salt level?
No. If current salinity exceeds your target, it reports no salt addition. Use the Water Replacement calculator to explore dilution, then have a pool professional determine a safe exchange method.
Should I add all the salt at once?
Follow your equipment instructions for application, circulation and retesting. Staged additions help you check the actual response before committing the entire estimated amount.
