Product Overview
The Jandy VersaTemp™ JRT3000R Heat/Chill Pump is a high-capacity electric pool and spa temperature-control system designed to provide both efficient heating and active cooling. With an output of 130,000 BTU under 80/80/80 test conditions and a published 5.8 coefficient of performance, this unit is suited for large residential pools, spas, commercial applications, and properties in warm climates where water cooling is as important as heating.
Unlike a heat-only pool heater, the VersaTemp can reverse its refrigeration cycle to remove heat from the water. This allows the system to lower an overheated pool’s temperature during hot summer conditions or maintain cooler water for exercise and recreation. Its Power Defrost system also reverses operation automatically when the outdoor coil begins developing ice, helping the unit continue heating during colder weather.
The JRT3000R operates on 208/230V, 60Hz, single-phase electrical service. It features a titanium heat exchanger, scroll compressor, digital LCD controller, multilingual diagnostics, SoundShield™ noise-reduction technology, and compatibility with Jandy AquaLink® automation systems.

Benefits
The VersaTemp uses energy from the surrounding outdoor air to heat pool water, providing an efficient alternative to traditional gas or electric-resistance heating. Its reversible operation also allows the same unit to cool the pool when outdoor temperatures cause the water to become uncomfortable.
The titanium heat exchanger offers strong resistance to corrosion and is approved for pools using compatible salt chlorine generators when salt concentration remains within Jandy’s specified limits. Jandy’s installation manual identifies the JRT series for fresh-water pools and spas, including saltwater systems maintained below 4,500 ppm salt.
When connected to compatible AquaLink automation, the unit can be controlled through the iAquaLink app, allowing temperature adjustments and equipment operation from a supported mobile device.

Installation Information
Install the VersaTemp outdoors on a solid, level equipment pad with unrestricted airflow around the evaporator coil and adequate clearance above the fan discharge. The unit must not be installed where discharged air can recirculate back into the coil.
The JRT3000R requires water flow between 30 and 70 GPM. It should normally be plumbed downstream of the pool filter and upstream of the chlorinator or chemical feeder. A check valve must be installed between the heater outlet and any downstream sanitation equipment.
Electrical installation requires a properly sized dedicated circuit, disconnect, grounding, bonding, and overcurrent protection. Installation and service must be performed by a qualified pool professional and licensed electrician.
Confirm Before Ordering
Verify the following:
- You need both pool heating and active cooling.
- Your electrical service supports 208/230V single-phase operation.
- A 50-amp maximum circuit-protection arrangement is appropriate.
- Your circulation system can maintain 30–70 GPM.
- The equipment pad provides sufficient airflow and service clearance.
- Your pool size, climate, and desired temperature range are appropriate for a 130K BTU heat pump.
- The required model is JRT3000R, not the three-phase JRT3000R3.
Warranty Information
The Jandy VersaTemp is covered by the applicable manufacturer’s limited warranty when professionally installed and operated according to Jandy requirements. Warranty coverage does not include improper electrical service, restricted airflow, insufficient water flow, freeze damage, chemical abuse, unauthorized repairs, or installation that does not comply with applicable codes.
