OEM vs. Replacement Cartridges

OEM cartridges come straight from Pentair, Hayward or Jandy. Unicel and Pleatco cartridges are made to the same dimensions and square footage, usually for less. Match the length, diameter, top and bottom openings, and square footage of the cartridge you are replacing. Most multi-cartridge filters, like the Clean & Clear Plus 420 and 520, are sold as 4-packs.

When to Replace

Plan to replace cartridges every 1 to 3 years, or sooner if the pleats are torn, flattened or will not clean up. In hot, high-use climates like Las Vegas they wear faster. DE grids should be replaced if the fabric is torn or DE is getting back into the pool. For tank lids, O-rings and other hardware, see filter parts.
