Product Overview

The Hayward HeatPro MCHX W3HP21405T is a 140,000 BTU electric pool heat pump designed to provide efficient, dependable heating for in-ground swimming pools. Its advanced microchannel heat-exchanger technology improves durability, reduces refrigerant requirements, and provides strong heating performance in cooler outdoor conditions.

This heat-only model uses a single-speed compressor and operates on a 220/240V, single-phase electrical supply. A patent-pending defrost algorithm helps maintain heating capacity when ambient temperatures fall below 50°F, allowing pool owners to extend their swimming season.

The microchannel coil features a durable structure designed to resist fin damage during installation and exposure to outdoor conditions. Hayward’s Trivalent Chromium Process coating provides enhanced corrosion resistance for long-term operation in demanding climates. The reduced number of brazed joints also minimizes potential refrigerant-leak points compared with traditional coil construction.

The W3HP21405T can be integrated with compatible Hayward Omni automation through a low-voltage relay, allowing convenient temperature management and scheduling. This is the Open Line W3 version and includes a one-year parts-only manufacturer warranty with no labor coverage.

Specifications

The specifications above are published by Hayward for the W3HP21405T Open Line model.

Installation Information

Professional installation is strongly recommended. The heat pump requires a properly sized dedicated electrical circuit, correct bonding and grounding, adequate water flow, and sufficient ventilation clearance.

Maintain at least 12 inches of clearance around the rear and sides of the unit and 72 inches of unobstructed vertical clearance. A plumbing bypass is not mandatory when water flow remains below 75 GPM, but a bypass may help optimize flow and heating efficiency.

Confirm Before Ordering

Confirm the following before purchase:

• A heat-only model is required
• The pool has a compatible 220/240V single-phase electrical supply
• A maximum 50-amp breaker is appropriate for the installation
• The equipment pad provides the required ventilation clearances
• The 140,000 BTU capacity is properly sized for the pool
• Professional electrical and plumbing installation is available

Heat-pump sizing depends on pool volume, surface area, desired temperature, local climate, wind exposure, and whether a pool cover is used.

Warranty Information

The W3HP21405T is an Open Line W3 product and carries a one-year parts-only limited manufacturer warranty. Labor coverage is not included. Warranty eligibility is subject to Hayward’s current terms, proof-of-purchase requirements, and proper installation.
