Product Overview

The Raypak P-R266A-MN-C #52 Millivolt Natural Gas Pool and Spa Heater | 009843 is a high-altitude residential heater designed for installations located from 6,000 to 8,999 feet above sea level.

This model delivers 266,000 BTU of natural-gas heating input and features Raypak’s Millivolt Plus control system. A standing pilot heats a millivolt generator that powers the heater’s controls, allowing the unit to operate without a conventional 120V or 240V electrical connection.

The heater combines a copper fin-tube heat exchanger with corrosion-resistant polymer headers, an automatic bypass, and a Unitherm Governor for dependable residential pool and spa heating.

Specifications

Compatibility Information

The Raypak 009843 is designed for residential pool and spa systems using natural gas at elevations from 6,000 to 8,999 feet.

Before ordering, verify:

• Installation elevation
• Natural-gas meter capacity
• Gas-line diameter and total run
• Inlet and manifold gas pressure
• Pool and spa volume
• Required heating recovery time
• Plumbing size and water flow
• Equipment-pad clearances
• Ventilation and combustion-air requirements
• Local gas and building codes

Because this model uses millivolt controls, it is generally not the preferred option for installations requiring modern pool automation or long-distance external control wiring. Raypak explains that millivolt systems generate their own low-voltage power but have limited practical compatibility with outside controls.

What’s Included

• Raypak 009843 natural-gas pool and spa heater
• Copper fin-tube heat exchanger
• Polymer header assembly
• Millivolt Plus control system
• Standing-pilot ignition assembly
• Automatic internal bypass components
• Unitherm Governor
• Manufacturer installation documentation

Not Included: Gas piping, shutoff valve, regulator, plumbing materials, venting components, equipment pad, external automation controls, or installation labor.

Installation Information

Professional installation by a qualified gas or pool-equipment technician is required.

The installer must verify installation elevation, natural-gas supply capacity, gas-line sizing, inlet and manifold pressure, water flow, plumbing configuration, ventilation, combustion-air requirements, equipment clearances, and applicable local codes.

This heater is factory configured for natural gas and elevations from 6,000 to 8,999 feet. It should not be installed outside that range without confirming the correct Raypak model configuration.

The standing pilot uses a small amount of natural gas whenever it remains lit. Raypak states that millivolt heaters use the pilot flame to generate the low-voltage power required to operate the controls.

Warranty Information

The Raypak 009843 is covered by a limited manufacturer warranty subject to Raypak’s current warranty terms, application, purchase channel, installation date, product registration, and qualified professional installation.

Proof of purchase and installation documentation may be required.

Warranty coverage does not include damage caused by:

• Incorrect altitude configuration
• Improper gas pressure or gas-line sizing
• Incorrect fuel connection
• Restricted or excessive water flow
• Poor or unbalanced water chemistry
• Scale, corrosion, or erosion
• Freezing
• Improper ventilation or venting
• Misuse or unauthorized modifications

Raypak currently states that residential 206A–406A gas heaters installed in commercial applications receive one-year parts-and-labor coverage; qualifying residential coverage remains subject to the applicable written warranty.

Customer Questions

Is this heater natural gas or propane?
The Raypak 009843 is factory configured for natural gas.

What is its BTU rating?
It has a natural-gas input rating of 266,000 BTU.

What elevation is this model designed for?
The #52 configuration is designed for installations from 6,000 to 8,999 feet above sea level.

Does it require electricity?
No conventional 120V or 240V power connection is required. The standing pilot powers a millivolt generator that operates the heater controls.

Does it have digital controls?
No. It uses a mechanical thermostat and Millivolt Plus controls.

Can it connect to pool automation?
Its automation compatibility is limited. A digital electronic-ignition model is typically better for modern automation systems.
