Product Specifications

Full-Rated 2 HP Performance

The B2748 is a full-rated 2 HP motor, meaning motor selection should not be based on horsepower alone.

The motor's total horsepower is calculated as:

2.0 HP × 1.30 Service Factor = 2.60 THP

When replacing an existing motor, compare the original motor's Total Horsepower, voltage, frame, mounting configuration, and shaft style.

Installing a replacement motor with insufficient total horsepower can overload the motor and lead to overheating or premature failure.

56Y Square-Flange Configuration

The 56Y frame uses a square-flange mounting system commonly found on many high-performance in-ground pool pumps.

The motor mounts directly to the pump's seal plate, while the threaded shaft connects to the pump impeller.

Before ordering, verify that the existing pump uses:

• 56Y frame
• Square-flange mounting
• Threaded shaft
• 230V electrical supply
• Single-phase power
• Approximately 2.60 THP motor requirement

Common Pool Pump Applications

The Century B2748 has historically been used as a replacement motor for compatible Pentair WhisperFlo® and Pentair Challenger® full-rated pool pumps, along with other pump assemblies using the same 56Y square-flange motor configuration.

Pump compatibility should always be confirmed using the existing motor nameplate and exact pump model before ordering.

Horsepower alone does not guarantee compatibility.

Stainless-Steel Threaded Shaft

Pool equipment is routinely exposed to moisture and corrosive environments. The B2748 incorporates a threaded stainless-steel motor shaft designed specifically for pool pump applications.

The threaded shaft allows the pump impeller to attach directly to the motor while providing improved corrosion resistance compared with standard steel shaft configurations.

Important: Replace the Shaft Seal

Always replace the mechanical pump shaft seal when installing a new pool pump motor.

The mechanical shaft seal prevents pool water from traveling along the motor shaft and reaching the motor bearings and electrical components.

Reusing an old seal can cause:

• Water leaks
• Bearing damage
• Shaft corrosion
• Motor noise
• Electrical damage
• Premature motor failure

The correct shaft seal is determined by the pump make and model, not by Century motor model B2748.

We recommend installing the proper shaft seal or complete pump GO-KIT during every motor replacement.

Motor Only

The Century B2748 is a replacement motor only.

Unless specifically stated otherwise, the following are not included:

• Pump housing
• Seal plate
• Diffuser
• Impeller
• Mechanical shaft seal
• Gaskets
• O-rings
• Pump unions
• Electrical wiring
• Complete pool pump assembly

Important Energy-Efficiency Notice

Federal energy-efficiency requirements for Dedicated Purpose Pool Pump replacement motors changed beginning September 29, 2025.

Replacement motors meeting the federal definition of a Dedicated Purpose Pool Pump Motor and falling within applicable Total Horsepower ranges may be required to use variable-speed technology.

Because the B2748 is a 2.60 THP single-speed motor, customers and installers should verify whether this motor is permitted for their particular application before purchase or installation.

Certain exempt pump applications may be treated differently under applicable regulations.
