Product Overview

The Pentair Air Bleed Tube Assembly | 178583 is a genuine OEM replacement component designed for compatible Pentair Clean & Clear Plus 520-square-foot cartridge filters. Located inside the filter tank, the air bleed tube helps release trapped air and supports proper water circulation through the filter assembly.

A damaged, clogged, cracked, or missing internal air bleed tube may allow excess air to remain inside the filter tank, resulting in inconsistent filtration, reduced system performance, or air returning through the pool’s circulation system. Replacing the damaged assembly with the correct Pentair OEM component helps restore the filter to its intended operating configuration.

Part number 178583 is specifically identified by Pentair for the 520-square-foot Clean & Clear Plus model manufactured after November 1998. Because Pentair uses different air bleed assemblies for other filter sizes, customers should verify their filter model and square-foot rating before ordering.

Common Signs Replacement May Be Needed

Consider inspecting the internal air bleed tube if you notice:

• Air repeatedly collecting inside the filter tank
• Air bubbles returning through the pool’s return lines
• Inconsistent filter pressure
• Reduced circulation or filtration performance
• Visible cracks or deterioration in the existing tube
• A loose, clogged, or missing air bleed assembly
• Damage discovered during cartridge cleaning or filter service

These symptoms may also be caused by suction-side plumbing leaks, low pool-water levels, damaged pump-lid seals, or other circulation problems. Inspect the complete system before determining that the air bleed tube is the source of the issue.

Installation Information

Before servicing the filter, turn off the circulation pump at the breaker and completely relieve all internal filter pressure using the manual air-relief valve. Never loosen the filter clamp while the system is pressurized.

Remove the filter lid according to the manufacturer’s instructions, remove the cartridge and manifold components as necessary, and replace the existing air bleed tube in the correct position. Inspect the cartridges, manifolds, tank O-ring, clamp assembly, and manual air-relief valve before reassembling the filter.

Professional installation is recommended if you are unfamiliar with pressurized pool filtration systems.

Important Buyer Notice

Pentair manufactures different air bleed tube assemblies for different Clean & Clear Plus filter sizes. Part 178583 is intended for the 520-square-foot model and should not be selected based only on appearance. Check the label on the filter tank or confirm the existing part number before ordering.
