Product Overview

The Pentair 522186Z pH Sensor is a genuine OEM replacement probe designed for compatible Pentair IntelliChem® residential and commercial chemical-control systems. Installed in the IntelliChem flow cell, the sensor continuously measures the pool or spa water’s pH level and sends real-time readings to the controller.

Accurate pH information allows the IntelliChem system to determine when additional pH-reducing chemical is required. Depending on the installation, the controller may activate a muriatic-acid feed system or a compatible carbon-dioxide system to help maintain the programmed pH range. The IntelliChem controller uses this sensor information along with its programming and safety limits to manage chemical dispensing automatically.

The 522186Z is ideal for replacing an aging, damaged, contaminated, or unstable pH probe. Common signs of sensor deterioration include readings that drift shortly after calibration, inaccurate measurements compared with manual testing, repeated calibration warnings, or chemical dosing that does not match the actual pool-water conditions.

This listing includes the pH sensor only. The IntelliChem controller, flow cell, ORP sensor, wiring, chemical pumps, tanks, tubing, and calibration solutions are not included.

Benefits

Maintaining accurate pH readings is essential for proper chemical control. Incorrect readings can cause the IntelliChem system to dispense too much or too little acid, potentially creating uncomfortable water conditions or damaging pool surfaces and equipment.

Replacing a worn probe helps restore dependable pH monitoring and more accurate automatic chemical feeding. Stable pH also supports effective sanitizer performance, swimmer comfort, and protection against scale or corrosive water conditions.

Using a genuine Pentair sensor helps maintain the correct probe dimensions, electrical connection, and performance characteristics required by compatible IntelliChem controllers.

Installation Information

Turn off circulation and chemical-feed equipment before servicing the flow cell. Relieve system pressure, disconnect the existing sensor, and remove it carefully from the flow-cell assembly.

Install the replacement probe according to Pentair instructions without overtightening the sensor fitting. The sensing tip should remain clean, properly positioned, and exposed to the correct water flow.

After installation, calibrate the new sensor using fresh, manufacturer-approved pH calibration solution and confirm the reading with a reliable manual water test. Never use a damaged or contaminated calibration solution.

Pentair warns that dirty, depleted, or damaged sensors can provide incorrect readings and cause improper chemical treatment.

Sensor Care

Keep the sensing tip wet during storage and service. Do not allow the glass sensing element to dry out, and do not handle or clean it with abrasive materials.

Oils, lotions, scale, and chemical deposits can affect sensor accuracy. Follow Pentair’s recommended cleaning and calibration procedures, and replace the probe when it can no longer hold an accurate calibration.

Confirm Before Ordering

Please verify:

• Your controller is a Pentair IntelliChem system.
• You require the pH probe, not the ORP sensor.
• The required replacement part is 522186Z.
• The existing flow cell and sensor fitting are serviceable.
• The problem has been diagnosed as a sensor issue.
• Fresh calibration solution is available for setup.

Warranty Information

The Pentair 522186Z is covered by the applicable manufacturer’s limited warranty against qualifying defects in materials and workmanship. Warranty coverage does not include normal sensor depletion, improper storage, a dried sensing tip, contamination, chemical damage, incorrect installation, broken glass, or failure to perform required maintenance and calibration.

Customer-Facing Q&A

Q: Does this sensor automatically add acid?
A: No. The sensor measures pH and sends the reading to the IntelliChem controller. The controller operates compatible chemical-feed equipment.

Q: Is the ORP sensor included?
A: No. This listing includes the pH sensor only.

Q: How do I know when the sensor needs replacement?
A: Replacement may be necessary when readings are unstable, inaccurate compared with manual testing, or cannot be maintained after proper cleaning and calibration.

Q: Does the new sensor require calibration?
A: Yes. The replacement probe should be calibrated according to the IntelliChem instructions before normal operation.
