Product Overview

The Hayward AquaTrol W3AQ-TROL-RJ is a complete salt chlorine generation system designed specifically for residential above-ground swimming pools up to 18,000 gallons. Instead of manually adding chlorine on a regular basis, AquaTrol converts dissolved pool salt into chlorine automatically, providing consistent sanitization while reducing day-to-day chemical handling.

The RJ version is designed to install directly at the pool’s return jet and includes the required return-jet adapters. This model uses a 120V/15A straight-blade electrical connection and incorporates a built-in timer to control the pool filtration pump.

Specifications

Hayward specifies an ideal operating salt concentration of 2,700–3,400 ppm, with approximately 3,200 ppm optimal.

What's Included

The W3AQ-TROL-RJ system includes the AquaTrol chlorine-generation equipment, salt cell assembly, return-jet installation fittings, and the standard straight-blade line cord and outlet configuration required for this version.

Installation & Upgrade Notes

The W3AQ-TROL-RJ is the Return Jet version of AquaTrol. The salt cell is installed at the pool return rather than being plumbed into rigid PVC or flexible filter hoses like the AquaTrol HP models.

This makes the RJ version particularly useful for traditional above-ground pool installations where minimizing plumbing modifications is preferred. Hayward identifies the W3AQ-TROL-RJ as the straight-blade 120V/15A model with adapters for return-jet mounting.

A properly grounded GFCI-protected electrical receptacle is required. Installation should follow all applicable electrical codes and Hayward installation instructions.

Frequently Asked Questions

What size pool can the W3AQ-TROL-RJ handle?
It is designed for residential above-ground pools up to 18,000 gallons.

What salt level should I maintain?
Hayward recommends maintaining approximately 2,700–3,400 ppm, with 3,200 ppm considered optimal.

Does it control the pool pump?
Yes. AquaTrol includes an integrated filter-pump timer and allows filtration periods to be programmed in 15-minute increments.

Is this the hose-pipe version?
No. W3AQ-TROL-RJ is the return-jet version. For systems requiring connection through flexible hose or rigid PVC plumbing, an AquaTrol HP configuration should be considered instead.

Does the system clean the salt cell automatically?
The AquaTrol periodically reverses cell polarity to help reduce scale accumulation and maintain cell performance.
