Product Overview

The Raypak Crosswind V 8550 Deluxe Heat/Cool Pump | 8550EHC08 is a high-performance pool heat/cool pump designed to help maintain comfortable pool water temperatures in a wider range of conditions. With 137,000 BTU heating capacity and R-410A refrigerant, this model is built for pool owners who want efficient electric heating with the added benefit of cooling capability when pool water becomes too warm.

Unlike a gas heater, the Crosswind V uses heat pump technology to transfer heat from the surrounding air into the pool water. In cooling mode, it can help remove excess heat from the pool water, making it a strong option for warm-climate pools, sun-exposed pools, and customers who want better temperature control throughout the season.

This unit is intended for compatible residential pool systems and should be installed by a qualified pool professional or licensed electrician. Always confirm pool size, electrical requirements, water flow, plumbing layout, equipment clearance, and climate conditions before ordering.

Benefits

The Raypak Crosswind V 8550 Deluxe Heat/Cool Pump gives pool owners more control over water temperature by offering both heating and cooling capability. In cooler conditions, the unit helps warm the pool using electric heat pump technology. In hot weather, cooling mode can help lower pool water temperature for a more comfortable swimming experience.

The 137K BTU capacity makes this model a strong option for properly sized residential pools that need dependable temperature control. Because it does not require natural gas or propane, it can be a practical choice for equipment pads where gas service is unavailable or not preferred.

For pools that get too warm during peak summer months, the heat/cool function can be especially valuable compared with heat-only models.

Heat/Cool Pump vs. Gas Heater

A heat/cool pump uses electricity to transfer heat between the air and pool water. It can heat the pool during cooler conditions and help cool the water when the pool gets too warm.

A gas heater burns natural gas or propane to heat water quickly. Gas heaters are often preferred for fast spa heat-up, colder air temperatures, or occasional-use pools.

Choose the Raypak Crosswind V 8550EHC08 if your goal is efficient electric pool temperature control with both heating and cooling capability. If your priority is very fast heat-up, especially for a spa, a gas heater may be a better fit.

Warranty & Compatibility

Compatibility Guidance

The Raypak Crosswind V 8550EHC08 is designed for compatible pool systems that require a 137K BTU electric heat/cool pump and have the proper electrical, plumbing, water-flow, and installation setup.

Before ordering, confirm the following:

• You need model 8550EHC08.
• Your pool size and temperature goals match a 137,000 BTU heat/cool pump.
• Your electrical service matches the unit’s required voltage, phase, breaker, and wiring requirements.
• Your pump and filter system can provide the required water flow.
• Your plumbing layout can support proper heat pump installation.
• Your equipment pad has adequate clearance for airflow and service access.
• Your installation location allows proper condensate drainage.
• Your climate is suitable for heat pump heating and cooling performance.
• Your pool professional has confirmed system sizing and compatibility.

Do not select this unit by BTU rating alone. Pool size, plumbing flow, climate, desired temperature, heating/cooling goals, equipment placement, and electrical service all affect whether this model is the right fit.

Confirm Before Ordering

Before purchasing, please verify:

• You need the Raypak Crosswind V 8550 Deluxe model.
• You need part number 8550EHC08.
• You want both heating and cooling capability.
• Your pool system is properly sized for a 137K BTU heat/cool pump.
• Your electrical setup is compatible with the unit requirements.
• Your plumbing and water flow are compatible with this unit.
• Your equipment pad has proper clearance around the cabinet.
• You understand this is an electric heat/cool pump, not a gas heater.
• You understand performance depends on outdoor temperature, humidity, wind, pool size, and cover use.
• Professional installation will be completed by a qualified pool professional or licensed electrician.

Recommended Use

Use the Raypak Crosswind V 8550 Deluxe Heat/Cool Pump | 8550EHC08 for compatible residential pool systems where a 137K BTU electric heat/cool pump is properly sized for the pool volume, climate, desired water temperature, and heating/cooling schedule.

This model is especially useful for pools in warm climates, pools with heavy sun exposure, and customers who want more balanced water temperature control across the swimming season.

For best heating performance, use a pool cover when the pool is not in use. A cover helps reduce heat loss, especially overnight, and can improve heating efficiency and recovery time.

Installation Notes

This heat/cool pump should be installed by a qualified pool professional and licensed electrician. Installation may involve electrical wiring, bonding, grounding, plumbing connections, water-flow verification, equipment pad placement, condensate management, and startup testing.

Professional installation is recommended to ensure:

• Correct electrical wiring and breaker sizing
• Proper bonding and grounding
• Correct plumbing connection and water flow
• Adequate airflow clearance around the unit
• Level equipment pad placement
• Proper condensate drainage
• Safe startup and temperature programming
• Correct heat and cool mode setup
• Compatibility with pumps, filters, automation, and pool controls
• Verification that the system is heating, cooling, and flowing correctly

Improper installation may cause poor heating or cooling performance, system errors, electrical hazards, water leaks, refrigerant-related issues, freeze damage, or voided warranty coverage.

Important Sizing Note

Heat pump performance depends on several factors, including pool size, outdoor air temperature, humidity, wind exposure, desired water temperature, plumbing flow, equipment placement, and whether a pool cover is used.

Cooling performance also depends on outdoor conditions, water temperature, equipment placement, and run time. A 137K BTU heat/cool pump may not perform the same in every climate or installation. Always confirm sizing and compatibility with a qualified pool professional before ordering.
